The seas are a ladder, and the wall is different depending on where you stopped. Pick the line that matches what you are seeing.
Still in the starter water
The raft holds four chests and every later sea assumes more hull than that. Start with Coral Island and the shipwright.
First 30 minutesPushed back at a sea boundary
At Abyssal the ship is shoved back until a ship add-on is fitted, which is what the compass questions are about.

That is a hull and repair problem. Every sea after the gate has its own boss and its own damage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to pay to enjoy Be a Pirate?
No. The whole loop runs on gold, and the free Pirate Pass plus daily rewards hand out the same currencies. The passes mostly multiply what you already earn.
Are there any Be a Pirate codes?
None are confirmed as of 2 November 2026. The free rewards that do exist are Daily Rewards and the free Pirate Pass track.
Can you fight the bosses solo?
Crab King is an island boss anyone can join. A solo Flying Dutchman kill is on video with a War Galleon, and one comment says weapons do more damage than the ship does.
What level do you need for Abyssal?
Level is not the reported gate: players say black tide pushes you back until you have the right ship add-on, which is why Poseidon's Compass keeps coming up.
